Founded on the Conviction That Education Must Lead Industry Change
ABOCE was established by the Modular Building Institute (MBI) and the New York Institute of Technology’s Center for Offsite Construction (CfOC) following a unanimous vote by an industry-wide Task Force in August 2025. Its founding mission: to provide higher education with the governance, legitimacy, and tools needed to launch degree programs in industrialized building.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our board will draw from architecture, engineering, construction management, manufacturing, and academia — ensuring that accreditation decisions reflect the full complexity of offsite practice.
Hundreds of academic institutions in North America already hold at least one relevant accreditation, and could scale quickly.

Universities that are already triple-accredited in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction, and are teaching almost all the relivant concepts for an offsite degree.
Zero accredited degree pathways exist today for offsite construction — the path to affordable housing solutions for our communities. This is the gap ABOCE exists to close.
A New Kind of Professional Needs a New Kind of Education
ABOCE defines the body of knowledge required for an accredited offsite construction degree — spanning design for manufacture, systems integration, manufacturing tolerances, digital workflows, logistics, and project delivery. Standards are outcome-based, giving institutions flexibility in how they meet them.
Program Review
Institutions seeking accreditation submit a self-study report and host a peer review visit by a trained evaluation team. ABOCE evaluators assess curriculum balance, faculty qualifications, industry partnerships, and student outcomes — using criteria developed in consultation with the field.
Continuous Improvement
Accreditation is not a one-time event. ABOCE maintains ongoing relationships with accredited programs, conducts periodic re-evaluations, and updates standards as the offsite industry evolves — ensuring that graduates are always prepared for current practice.
